Schools connect children and families with active public spaces.

ITALY

The Italian pilot built upon an existing community-based initiative rather than introducing a new programme within schools. Through the Parchi in Movimento ("Parks in Motion") programme, EHLA Active Day expanded a well-established network of outdoor physical activity by specifically involving primary schools and young children.

The project created a bridge between school and community. Children first experienced the activities during school hours and were subsequently encouraged to participate with their families in the public park programme during their leisure time. In this way, EHLA Active Day extended physical activity beyond the classroom and strengthened the connection between schools, families and local communities.

To evaluate this approach, Italy primarily focused on collecting feedback from teachers and coaches responsible for delivering the activities. Their reflections provide valuable insight into the feasibility, educational value and long-term potential of integrating schools into community-based physical activity programmes.
